In the heart of Eastwood, a transformation has taken place on a site that once held a cream brick house from the 1970s. The new owners, with a vision for their ideal downsizer, embarked on a journey to construct a home that not only met their needs but also respected the architectural heritage of the area.

The design brief was ambitious yet precise: to fit a double garage, dual living spaces, three bedrooms including a master suite, a kitchen with an adjoining pantry, and a powder room, all within the confines of a modest 450sqm plot.

Moreover, the project presented a unique challenge of crafting a modern home in a Historic Conservation zone, an area characterized by its charming row cottages and villas. The solution was a harmonious blend of pitched roofs, white bricks, and vertical timber cladding, which allowed the new construction to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings, embodying a contemporary spirit while paying homage to the area's rich history.

The orientation of the site, with its northern aspect, demanded a living space that could engage with the streetscape openly yet maintain a level of privacy for its inhabitants. This was cleverly addressed through the use of "hit and miss" brickwork, which provides a delicate balance of visibility and seclusion, allowing light and air to flow freely while shielding the interior from prying eyes.

A pivotal aspect of this project was the homeowner's distinct interior design vision, brought to life with the help and expertise of Bek Cichiro, whose contributions enriched the home's internal character and ambiance.

This project stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful and efficient design, creating a home that feels expansive and connected to its environment despite its compact footprint. The meticulous planning and innovative solutions have resulted in a home that is a sanctuary of space, light, and privacy, blending effortlessly with the natural beauty of the garden and the broader landscape.
